9:25p That Yuletide Update
Whattup peoples?
Consider it a victory, but my second book, entitled "Mass Transit" is complete! I spent the last couple of days, the first couple of days at home, I got through editing the manuscript. I'm really happy with it, and I think it's an improvement over By The Ounce (if there were such a thing, ;-p )and it's on its way to being laid out and being available for purchase. Yeahyeah! It was only a year ago this week (Christmas Eve) when "By The Ounce" went on sale. I think its a pretty good turn around for a new volume, especially I had theoretically my entire life to come with the first one. It's also a collection of short stories and poems, but it leaves the door open for a novel in the future.
But don't let me get ahead of myself.
Tonight, was the second annual Father-Son Bowling Classic, where my Dad and I play a couple of games at the lanes. I lost last year and I was not going to be denied. The result? I was denied, BUT I got even closer this year. Dad may have won two years in a row, but the third time is the charm they say. It's only a matter of time until I'm a pro. A pro I tell you, A PRO!
With tomorrow being the first "real" day of my vacation (without working on the book and all), I'm trying to decide of what I should get myself into. Maybe I should check out a movie, or go joyridin' in my momma's hoopty. Either way sounds fun to me, right?
RIGHT?!

11:12a When We Last Left Young Flobito
What's up peoples?
I type this on my parents (older) computer in the basement of the house I grew up in. Of course, I'm spending the holidays in NYC and I am enjoying it. That said, it's always cool to travel someplace to where you are physically removed from the stresses you have to deal with. For example, my parent's computer set up at home makes film editing virtually impossible and I'm okay with that.
I spent the last two nights working on the second book, and it's the most work I've done on it in such a short period of time. Given my current living arrangement (ie, being three blocks from school) it's been kind of hard to jack out and concentrate on a side project the magnitude of writing thousands of words onto the page. Hell, it's even harder to keep up with this journal, but I figure I gotta keep writing my life down if I plan to live and grow from it. Anyway, I think the book is truly coming together and here's hoping the new volume will be ready for purchase sometime in the spring of 2010.
Tell a friend.
Please.
Been spending time with the family, minus my borther of course. He moved cross town during the summer and the usual fifteen minute walk has now become a twenty five minute drive. Seeing that I don't have a car when I'm home and it's cool as shit these days, I have yet to see him. I figure I swing it before Christmas and if not he and my sis-in-law tends to show up for Christmas anyway. Here's hoping he likes my X-mas gift this year, as I went the sentimental route.
In the weird file, I ordered this book, called "But N Ben A-Go-Go", a cyperpunk mystery novel. What makes this book cool however is that the majority of it is written in lowland Scots, the language of my ancestors. I'll check it out, as the "winter required reading" this year. Last year, I checked out the collection of short noir stories called "Hard Boiled Brooklyn", a good read as they say.
Keeping a low profile, as I spent the morning shoveling the ten inches of snow that fell in the city,

4:21p Cuz I'm Leaving On That Jet Plane
Whattup peoples?
The semesters over and everyone is starting their own personal journey back home (or to their less stressful place) for the holidays. Me? I'll be flying out of here on Thursday and spending my time reading and writing and other smart-boy stuff when I land at LaGuardia. Hopefully.
This semester has been totally with its challenges, but I'm glad to say I'm more than willing to take one more semester of school if it'll mean I won't be doing the school thing for a while (if at all). 20 years at school is a long ass time no matter which way you slice it.
I went to the bowling alley yesterday to play a couple of games solo in preparation for the 2nd annual Father-Son classic that my Dad and I play during the break. He won last year, but I'll be damned if it happens again. Having your Dad beat you at something always sucks. The worse part of it last year was that he was coming off a ten to twenty year hiatus. Seriously. Put me to shame is what he did. But no more, homie. I got a ball preference and I got my pair of custom blue flame bowling shoes. See:

Pretty pimp, huh?
In other news, I have to say that it's been a while since I've been genuinely excited for the holiday season. Maybe because I know this might be one of the last times I'll be "home for the holidays", the whole thing just has this "warm and fuzzy" vibe all about it. I'm actually most excited about New Year's, a time where we can reflect AND look forward to the coming days (Making Thanksgiving even MORE irrelevant). Cold, crisp air, and all the familiar trappings of the old neighborhood and you got yourself a holiday that can't be beat.
In other words, so long SoCal, see you in 2010.
